She went to a wedding there a couple of years ago. Professional Tip
. Use check questions to ensure students understand the concept. Choose questions that require a simple, 1 or 2 word response, e.g. Yes/No questions. e.g. for She's been to São Paulo. Teacher: Did she go to São Paulo? Students: Yes Teacher: Do you know when? Students: No This is usually clearer and more interactive than a long grammatical explanation. . Don't use the target structure in your concept check questions, e.g. when focusing on the present perfect, don't ask e.g. Has she been to São Paulo? . Try to phrase your concept check questions in simple language (that is easier than the target language). . Plan the order of your questions. It's often best to check students understand the time reference first, e.g. for He's going to stay in a hotel, ask Is that the Future or the Past? Use gestures: e.g., point forward for future, back for past.
