Professional Tip
Although we teachers talk a lot about synonyms how often do we tell students 'Those words mean the same', there aren't many exact synonyms, and we do need to be careful about this. The choice of synonym depends on the context, and the best way to help with this is to teach words in context and give clear examples to remember.

. When teaching new vocabulary it's often useful to ask students if they can think of any synonyms to help them remember, eg US and UK versions, as above. . When words have more than one meaning, make sure you only teach one meaning at a time. . You also need to check that they know when to use each word e.g. formal and informal. Again good, relevant personal examples are the best record you can give. Check your answers. 11 Update your Portfolio. Record your answers to # 9 and give more details e.g. where you first met them, where you got them, when you became a teacher, etc. Time for a break! à go to Unit 15 B | Contact |
