icone_listen.gif3 What instructions does Rob give to set up the exercise?

4 Teacher Speak
Improve these instructions:

1. Would you mind opening your books at page number thirty-six please.
2. Now, I'd like you to work with a partner for the next exercise. Can you work with the person next to you?
3. Stefano what do you think is the answer to the next question?
4. Talk to your partner and find out what he or she thinks about the text.

5 Sometimes students don't understand instructions. What can you do if this happens?

6 These are the instructions that you have given. How would you check them?

1. Look at page fifty-six and do exercise two.
2. Think of a list of five questions to ask a hotel receptionist.
3. The text has been cut up. Put it in the correct order.

7 Update your Portfolio. Think of a class you're going to teach next week and some exercises you're going to do with them. Write the instructions that you might use for two or three exercises. Record your answers onto your Portoflio cassette.

Professional Tip

. Keep instructions as short as possible. That way, students don't get confused by any unnecessary information. It also allows them to talk more and you less!
