1 Study these examples of the Past Simple from earlier lessons.

Because it's in my blood I suppose. I can't / couldn't really remember why I decided / have decided to teach but it isn't / wasn't  to become rich! My mother was / 's a teacher and is very positive about teaching. When Ricardo and I were young she told / said us stories about the children in her classes. I loved / didn't enjoy hearing about them. I think she influences / influenced me. English was / wasn't my favourite subject at school too. It was probably because I really hated / liked the teacher. She taught / was teaching me for about five years and so I learnt / didn't learn English quickly.
I began / begun teaching English when I was at secondary school. I start / started helping my neighbours with their homework and suddenly I became / become a teacher. Pronúncia. As seguintes ortografias (todas sons átonos) causam a pronúncia do /t/:
-p, -k, -f, -gh, -ss, -x, ce, sh/tch.
Can you think of an example for each?, e.g. typed
Hold your throat and exaggerate them; e.g. p-p-p-p-P-P-P-P! and you'll feel they're unvoiced.

Study Tip

. If you don't know how a verb ending is pronounced, put it before a vowel sound, e.g. a/an + noun or the phrase a lot. It's easier both to hear and say.
. If you want students to hear and produce it, drill the verbs in a phrase or sentence.
