4 Which items in Exercises 2 and 3 are countable?

Professional Tip

Similar to clines, classification activities like this are a great way to 'drill' language in a personal way. You can send students back to re-process any (new) groups of words for different reasons. Ask them eg Which is the biggest, most expensive, most common in your life?, etc. to make them both think about and say the words again.

icone_listen.gif - 1470 Bytes5 Match the words and pictures, 1 to 19. Then listen and check by quickly saying each word/phrase twice after the number and, before the audio.

6 Cover the words and test yourself on all the food in the Vocabulary Builder. To practice, make a true sentence each time, e.g. I love/like/often eat/hardly ever drink XXX, etc. Can you remember all the words? Put the pictures away and write the vocabulary items from memory.

7 Fernanda is making a dessert called Banana split. Complete with the verbs pour, chop, cut or peel. Would you like to try it?
First she took two bananas and ______ them. Then she_____ them in half. She put some ice cream between the halves. Next she _____ some nuts and sprinkled them on the ice cream. Finally she ______ cream over the dessert. Delicious!

8 Write six other things from the Vocabulary Builder that we normally peel.

icone_listen.gif - 1470 Bytes9 Update your Portfolio. Listen to the questions then pause the audio and give your answers to these questions. Try to make complete sentences.

Study Tip

Use a bi-lingual dictionary if you don't know the words in English - the name of the food or dish might be there!

10 Record yourself doing #9 onto your Portfolio cassette.
