Caminhos COP is a global initiative that brings culture into the climate conversation, linking local experiences to worldwide challenges. Inspired by the movement leading up to COP30 climate summit in Brazil, the project sets out on a journey of shared knowledge through public panels, exhibitions, and creative activities in London (Science Museum), Rio de Janeiro (Museum of Tomorrow), and Belém (Museum of the Amazons).

It’s a collaborative effort between partner institutions, shaped around four themes defined by the British Council for the UK–Brazil Cultural Year: Culture + Climate, Culture + Place, Culture + Voice, and Culture + Technology. The program features:

  • Esquenta COP Occupation at the Museum of Tomorrow: The event “Heated Conversations – Culture and Climate” takes place on 23 October and marks the conclusion of a series of monthly panels on climate change and explores the role of cultural spaces, such as museums, in effectively communicating climate issues.

The discussion features Alexander Turra, Full Professor at the Institute of Oceanography of the University of São Paulo (IO-USP) and Coordinator of the UNESCO Chair for Ocean Sustainability; Fabio Scarano, Curator at the Museum of Tomorrow and Full Professor of Ecology at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ); Francy Baniwa, Indigenous woman, PhD in Social Anthropology and Curator at the Museum of the Amazons; and Laura Joy-Pieters, visual artist, MSci in Chemistry and Curator of Mathematical Sciences at the Science Museum.

  • Listening Sessions at the Museum of the Amazons: Culture and Climate reflected through the City that hosted COP30 is the title of the Panel discussion featuring Helena Lima, archaeologist and curator of the Museu das Amazônias; Ricardo Piquet, CEO of IDG; and Sir Ian Blatchford, Director of the Science Museum Group.

  • Panel at the Science Museum:
The Lates event, which is an after-hours program at the Science Museum, takes place in February 2026 within the context of the Future of Food exhibition and explores the actions we need to take to ensure the future of food.

Each of the encounters brings together voices from Brazil and the UK, chosen by the partner institutions. The project encourages bold and inclusive artistic collaborations, building bridges between places, organizations, and people.

Alongside the live events, Caminhos COP also hopes to inspire public policy ideas shaped by the challenges and opportunities of COP30 climate summit. By weaving together culture and climate, the initiative aims to leave a lasting impact and spark powerful conversations across borders and communities.
