Contemporary Amazonian art takes centre stage in the unprecedented exhibition Immersive Amazon, weaving together painting, photography, video, music and digital art in a sensory journey. Entrance is free.
At the heart of the exhibition, which is part of the UK/Brazil Season of Culture 2025–26, a 360º projection room presents works by Amazonian artists transposed into a large-scale audiovisual environment. Visitors are immersed in images and sounds that expand contemporary narratives of the region.
Featured artists include Ailton Krenak, Coletivo Mahku, Elza Lima, Ge Viana, Glicéria Tupinambá, Hal Wildson, Jaider Esbell, Keila Sankofa, Olinda Silvano, Paulo Desana, Roberta Carvalho, Ronaldo Guedes, VJ Suave and PV Dias. The soundtrack is directed by singer and researcher Aíla, with composition by Nelson D., an Indigenous artist from Amazonas, who blends traditional and experimental rhythms, from marabaixo to tecnobrega.
The project is part of an artistic exchange between the Instituto Culta Amazônia and the Scottish organisation Cryptic Glasgow, which in April will host a residency in Belém bringing together British artists Tom Scholefield and Sonia Killmann with Brazilian artists Renata Chebel and Nelson D. This collaboration reinforces the international character of the exhibition and broadens cultural dialogue between Brazil and the United Kingdom.
In addition to the audiovisual installation, the programme includes performances that unite music and image, such as As Amazônias 360º (Aíla, Djuena Tikuna and Patrícia Bastos, with visuals by Roberta Carvalho and Priscila Tapajowara), the Peruvian group Dengue Dengue Dengue, and the project UAPI Amazônia Percussiva.
