Photobook Exchange between Wales and Brazil is an international collaborative project inviting women and non-binary artists from Brazil and Wales to submit photobooks and zines in response to the theme There’s More to Life, in partnership with Ffoto Cymru 2026 and the UK/Brazil Season of Culture 2025–26. The initiative brings together Ffotogallery, Foto Féminas and Lovely House to create a platform for cultural exchange, visibility and dialogue between Brazilian and Welsh photographic communities.
The theme of the open call challenges dominant Western, capitalist, ableist and patriarchal ways of knowing by opening space for alternative perspectives, including Indigenous, matriarchal and non-mainstream knowledge systems. Through photography and self-publishing, participating artists are encouraged to explore multiple ways of seeing, understanding and experiencing the world beyond conventional hierarchies.
The selected photobooks and zines, printed locally, form part of a mobile library in São Paulo and a temporary exhibition at Lovely House. The project includes online talks, portfolio reviews and artist presentations to foster intercultural collaboration. From the open call, two artists will be invited to take part in a funded exhibition at the second edition of Ffoto Cymru in Wales in October 2026.
