Our Journey Toward a Resilient School

Imagine a school that learns from and grows stronger through challenges. A school that, when faced with heavy rains, prolonged droughts, or even the complexities of the digital world, not only withstands them but reinvents itself. This is the Resilient School.

Our workshops are an invitation for us to embark on this journey together.

Our goal is to strengthen the partnership between school, family, and community, creating creative and collective responses to the challenges of our time.

A Resilient School is one that learns from challenges. When faced with complex situations, such as climate change, it demonstrates a continuous ability to adapt, innovate, and transform.

It is with great pleasure that we present to schools and their School Councils these Guides for Collaborative Workshops within the framework of the School and Community Program (PROEC).

This is another outcome of the cooperation between the British Council and the Ministry of Education, through the Directorate for Teacher Training and the Appreciation of Education Professionals of the Secretariat of Basic Education.

The objective of the program—and, therefore, of the Collaborative Workshops—is to foster partnership between school, family, and community, from the perspective of holistic education, through the participation of students, education professionals, families, and community members in training projects that promote citizenship, a culture of peace and democracy, and the improvement of the quality of Brazilian public education. The expected outcomes of the workshops also reflect the British Council’s mission to promote peace and prosperity through dialogue and the collaborative building of pathways for human development, through education and the arts.

Two workshops were developed to support PROEC’s ambitions. They were designed to be implemented in schools across all regions of the country, respecting the cultural, regional, and linguistic diversity of school communities, especially the more than 32,000 institutions enrolled in the PROEC program in 2025.

The starting point of the workshops is an invitation to the School Council to carry out a reflective reading of the School’s Mission, Vision, and Values, fostering dialogue aligned with the unique pedagogical-philosophical and strategic principles of each school community.

From there, each workshop introduces a discussion topic related to contemporary challenges common to schools worldwide: the growing interaction of communities in the so-called digital world and the impacts of climate change on community dynamics. These themes are also connected to 21st-century life skills.
