At the British Council, we believe that the development and learning of the English language and its trends are not static; instead, it is a living concomitant that changes the more it is practised.

That is why, in May 2023, we held the New Directions Latam 2023 conference, an international event that brought together specialists who provide international and national perspectives on trends and approaches in English language assessment.

At the British Council, we want everything learned in this event to be shared, and that is why we want to continue the conversation with this magnificent webinar with Dr. Mariano Felice.

Abstract

AI (Artificial Intelligence) for teaching and assessment: what, why and how?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has received a lot of attention in recent times and has quickly made its way into educational environments. However, many teachers, educators, students, and parents are confused about what AI means, what it can and cannot do, and how it will affect them.

This webinar will demystify AI by explaining core concepts, how models are built and how they can be used to solve different tasks that can support teaching and assessment. We will also look at the rationale behind the use of AI, talk about some of the latest developments, and provide recommendations for the successful integration of these tools into our work.

This talk aims to serve as a starting point for those interested in understanding the foundations of AI so they can continue their foray into technology with a clearer and critical view of its capabilities.
